Opportunity for schools and groups to participate in Night Light 2022

Wigan Council are working with artist Mick Stephenson who is creating a full-sized narrow boat installation to be situated in the Dry Dock as part of the Night Light 2022 festival. Individuals, schools and groups will have the opportunity to participate and contribute to the making of the installation.

The boat will use a number of hexagon Perspex shapes created by participants. Young people are invited to engage in the project by illustrating some of the hexagons. Please see the proposal attached which gives you an idea of the finished design.

You will be provided with a workshop kit, containing instruction booklet for teachers, parents or group leaders, along with an ideas sheet, Perspex, pens and stickers. There is also the offer of Zoom meetings for teachers or those leading a workshop session. Each individual will be given a component (recycled Perspex) using pens to illustrate one of the themes as described, and the components will connect together to make a whole, on the boat.

The aim is to have artworks completed and returned by early October. Please get in touch with Katrina Houghton (katrina.houghton@wigan.gov.uk) if you are interested in getting involved.
