Join the Royal Opera House for FREE Teacher Training, 2022

In partnership with Wigan Music Service. Please read on for details of forthcoming FREE training provided by specialist drama and music practitioners from the Royal Opera House. The training is suitable for both specialist and non-specialist teachers and teaching assistants or anyone involved in the delivery of arts in education. This is the second time that Wigan Music Service have worked in partnership with the Royal Opera House Learning and Participation department and they are excited another superb experience for all participants in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Participants will gain a wealth of new skills and resources to utilise immediately in the classroom.

The Royal Opera House’s innovative Create & Sing programme gives teachers free access to certified training and unique online resources, enabling them to explore dramatic singing in their classrooms. Create and Sing supports teachers in delivering the National Curriculum and enriching their children’s creative learning. Designed alongside teachers from across the UK, the programme creatively develops children’s music and drama skills and knowledge through the process of making an opera.

Join the specialist ROH drama and music practitioners as they introduce the programme, its resources (including arrangements for young voices, backing tracks, lesson videos and schemes of work) and effective approaches to exploring and making opera in the classroom. No previous music or drama training is required to deliver this programme, so all educators are welcome! Wigan: Create and Sing Hansel and Gretel

  • Full day training – in person | 17th March 2022; 09:00 – 15:00 | Book here

  • Please not places are allocated on a first-come-first-serves basis.

  • The training venue is Hindley Pavilion, Hurst Street, Hindley WN2 3DN

  • Tea and coffee will be provided but delegates should make their own lunch arrangements.

  • If you are unable to make this date, please search the National online training dates for an alternative.

Information for participants:

  • Participants need to wear clothing which allows them to move easily and bring a water bottle.

  • Participants are not expected to have any dance, design, musical or dramatic training.

  • Participants are expected to stay for the whole day, encouraged to bring a "give it a go" attitude, and to throw themselves into the day's activities!

  • Teachers are required to register (free of charge) on the ROH Learning Platform prior to training:
